Providing a “precision medicine approach" to interpreting diabetes data
Managing diabetes can be daunting at times. There’s so much to think about and it’s common to feel overwhelmed.
Rapid advances in diabetes technology, including continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) are helping many people to better manage their diabetes. In addition, the ever increasing number of activity monitors or sleep trackers are allowing real-time insights into aspects of our health like never before.
All this technology is great… but it’s easy for so much data to become overwhelming unless we have the right tools to interpret it.
Starting from the beginning - what is CGM?
A continuous glucose monitor (CGM) is a small device that measures the body’s glucose levels in real-time by sensing the glucose present in tissue fluid (also called interstitial fluid). At any moment, without pricking your finger, you can see what your glucose level is.
You can also see what direction your glucose is headed in thanks to up, down, or sideways arrows shown on the display. Another advantage of CGM technology is that you can sit down with your healthcare provider to retrospectively talk through your data and make lifestyle changes accordingly.
CGM has the potential to inform, educate, motivate and alert people with diabetes. But are we maximizing its potential?
Interpreting CGM data takes a bit of skill, practice and methodical effort. It requires an understanding of how insulin, exercise, nutrition and other medications can impact blood glucose concentration. The problem is that much of this data is spread across different platforms. Shouldn’t there be a solution to help us to make use of all this information?
The enhance-d solution
Our solution aims to maximize the effectiveness of CGM by providing individualized information on the factors that are affecting your glucose traces.
We do this by collecting data from your diabetes and lifestyle devices and present it in an easy to use format. Our online dashboard and mobile app, will assist in the diagnosis, treatment and assessment of clinical outcomes related to diabetes.
In other words, we help you work out how the food you eat, the insulin you take and the exercise you do are affecting your glucose. This helps you to make the best decision to assist in managing your diabetes.
Why use enhance-d?
1. Diabetes technology is advancing rapidly: CGM is becoming increasingly available and more people are using wearable technology. Combining these technologies will allow better insights into your glucose data than ever before. But a solution to link these new technologies together is lacking.
2. Take Action: with enhance-d you can see the effects of changing behaviours such as exercise and nutrition or changing insulin dosage on your glucose profile.
3. Improved clinician - patient connection: doctors and nurses must constantly balance patient needs with the operations of providing high quality care. Having a single platform will streamline communication between patients and clinicians, while improving their coordination meaning more productive appointments.
4. Diabetes is a data-driven condition: understanding what data are most important and predictive, and determining which metrics providers can leverage to streamline operations and have more productive, efficient conversations with patients is key.
